What online games are not recommended with HughesNet and why?

Games that are not recommended with HughesNet or any internet satellite provider are ”real-time” games. This category is any type of game that requires fast-paced inputs that require immediate response. Such as First Person Shooters, Fighting Games, Racing, Action Games, Party Games, Sport Games & others.

To make it simple the time it takes for the signal to reach your video game console or computer from the satellite takes about a 750-1500ms delay. Although this short delay based on the great distance your request travels, “real-time” games require a higher ping rate or in other words the time it takes in between your online game to sends a request to the internet and the time it takes for that a response.

With HughesNet the ping rate it’s perfect for downloading content, streaming video and internet browsing. However, it is not recommended for fast paced games that require fast inputs.

If you try to connect and play online with certain first person shooter online you may be kicked out for exploiting. This is because other players may see you zip-zapping around the map and appearing and disappearing out of thin air. With that you run the risk of being banned from certain online services for cheating. If that doesn’t happen you will still be at a great disadvantage because your lag time. You may appear on your screen moving at a normal rate, but to others players your body may appears frozen in place, making you a sitting duck.

Here is a list of some games that are not  recommended for HughesNet Gen 5 to be played online. *You will still be able to play these games offline. If Offline mode is available*

  • Grand Theft Auto V Online
  • Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers
